REPORT A CHANGE
REPORT A CHANGE
Participants are required to report certain changes in household circumstances to the Vermillion Housing Authority.
Please contact VHA promptly to report:
- Someone moving into or out of your household
- Changes in household composition
- Changes in income or other circumstances when required by VHA
- Any other change that VHA has instructed you to report
Not every reported income change will result in a change to your portion of the rent. VHA will determine whether an interim reexamination is required in accordance with HUD requirements and VHA policy.
Do not add anyone to your assisted household or allow another person to establish residence in the assisted unit without prior approval from the Vermillion Housing Authority and your landlord, when required.
ANNUAL RECERTIFICATION
ANNUAL RECERTIFICATION
The Vermillion Housing Authority periodically reviews each assisted household’s eligibility, income, household composition, and other information required for continued participation in the Housing Choice Voucher Program.
When it is time for your reexamination, VHA will provide instructions explaining what you need to complete and any information or documentation that is required.
Participants are responsible for:
- Responding to VHA requests by the stated deadline
- Providing complete and accurate household information
- Providing requested documentation or authorizations
- Attending appointments when required
- Reporting household changes as required by VHA
Failure to provide required information or complete the reexamination process may affect your housing assistance.
INSPECTIONS
The Vermillion Housing Authority conducts inspections of assisted units in accordance with HUD’s National Standards for the Physical Inspection of Real Estate (NSPIRE).
Participants will be notified when an inspection is scheduled. Please make sure the inspector can access the unit and all areas that need to be inspected.
Participants are responsible for maintaining the unit in a safe and sanitary condition and promptly reporting conditions that may affect the health or safety of household members.
Property owners are responsible for maintaining the unit in accordance with applicable program requirements and correcting deficiencies within required timeframes.
If you receive an inspection notice, please follow the instructions provided by the Vermillion Housing Authority.
MOVING & PORTABILITY
MOVING & PORTABILITY
If you are considering moving, contact the Vermillion Housing Authority before giving notice to your landlord, moving out of your current unit, or signing a new lease.
VHA will review your household’s eligibility to move and provide instructions for completing the moving process.
If you would like to move outside the Vermillion Housing Authority’s jurisdiction, you may be eligible to use your Housing Choice Voucher in another housing authority’s jurisdiction through portability. VHA will determine your eligibility and explain the steps required to transfer your assistance.
Participants should not make moving arrangements or assume assistance will continue at a new unit until the required approvals have been completed.
Contact VHA before making plans to move so we can help you understand the process and avoid interruptions in your housing assistance.
